Sustainability

Our promise to the earth.

Sustainability is extremely important to us at CLÍODHNA. We only have one planet and our lack of care for the environment has caused detrimental effects to our Earth.

We all know the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters which is why it is important to us to provide a sustainable option for our art, clothing and in future products.

So, what is sustainability to us?
This means that the environment, people and animals are protected in the making of our clothes and paintings. This means using vegan paint and environmentally friendly material. Workers are paid a living wage.

We also use made to order services. This means you only order what you truly want, cutting down on landfill waste. This also means we reduce our carbon emissions on the planet.

Our clothing suppliers

It has been our mission over the last year to build a open, trusting and ethical relationship with our suppliers. We have made sure our suppliers reach certain standards and do a thorough background check before use. All workers are paid UK minimum wage or more by the company that hires them. We are now also using a SEDEX approved factory to make our garments.

  • ISO-certified (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015).
  • ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, and Smeta (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) certificates
  • BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) qualified
  • AQL(Acceptable Quality Limit) 2.5 for Quality Control
All our fabrics and auxiliary materials meet environmental requirements.
Our clothing is either made up with Recycled Polyester or Organic cotton. There is an inevitable part of the fashion industry. Clothing is made up of synthetic fibres. These tiny fibres are in fact micro plastics which build up in our environment. It’s in the air we breathe and even in our cells.  So it is of upmost importance to reuse polyester that has already been created and to use organic cotton.
To prolong the life of your clothing and reduce microfibre release wash your clothes at a cooler temperature and hang your clothes to dry instead of putting them in the drier. This not only conserves energy but reduces the stress on clothing meaning they will last longer.
Our Prints and Paintings
Here at CLÍODHNA supporting local is everything and this means sourcing our prints from a local printers to ensure quality, reduce our carbon footprint and offer made to order services.

We use two types of paper. For our open editions we use Photo Lustre and for our limited editions we use Archivable Summerset Velvet paper.

Archivable paper lasts over 100 years, while photo lustre with correct framing will last over 50 before you see fade.

Our paintings are only created on organic cotton or linen canvas. To ensure quality we use paint that is guaranteed to last over 100 years without fade. As CEO & Founder Clíodhna is vegan, it was important to us here at CLÍODHNA to remove the usage of black paint as its pigment comes from carbonised cattle bones. Any black paintings you have seen have been digitally painted to ensure that we are still vegan friendly.

All our packaging is eco-friendly. Our tags, stickers, tissue paper and thank you cards are all recyclable or made of recycled materials. Our boxes are biodegradable and even our bubble wrap can be recycled.
